These titanium weld nuts are designed to be centered into a hole using a boss on the bottom of the nut as a guide. The three identical weld pads on the bottom of the nut then raise it above the surface it is being welded to, allowing molten metal to get underneath the main structure for a more secure weld. The hex size of the nut has been increased to compensate for potential heat warping of the nut's internal threads.
These nuts are manufactured from Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) titanium, a common aerospace alloy with a yield strength that is approximately three and one half times stronger than 316 stainless steel or Grade 2 (CP) titanium.
